I continue to fulfill my passion for exploring the derelict structures of the past, this time in the northern plains of Montana. I am not sure why I have such a profound interest in abandoned buildings, or where the interest originated. Maybe it is related to my lifelong quest to try to understand the human connection to the built environment. Or maybe I just have an appreciation for old things, or see character increasing with age.

Remains of structures demonstrate to me a sort of permanence that is very poetic. We, as people, can make incredible and humble structures, and we can make them out of anything. No matter how robust or solid it is, or how quaint or majestic it may seem, our built environment is a mere allowed presence on this earth. One day, everything will break down, and submit its matter back to the soil in which it came.
